Pretoria’s Church Square is turning out to be a real Church in the Square!

On these beautiful and sunny Saturday mornings of Eastertide, Pretoria’s Church Square is turning out to be a real Church in the Square! Many faithful of the diocese of Pretoria joined the members of the Neocatechumenal Way in a “Great Mission in the Year of Faith”.

A mission in the squares, to bring the Good News to those who are far away through singing, dancing and many signs of hope and joy that call the passerby to stop and listen. This “Great mission” in the square will be held every Saturday morning until the first week of June, starting in Pretoria and soon to be followed in Cape Town.
An improvised podium and a backdrop with an image of Christ’s merciful face are there, waking curiosity in Saturday morning’s shoppers. A cross, a lectern and many youth dancing in circles and clapping their hands, are the visible sign that those who are far away were waiting for.
Many choose to let their weekend commitments wait, and stop for a while to listen to the preaching of the Good News.
“This is part of the contribution that the Neocatechumenal Way is giving to the Church for the Year of Faith”, explained Dino Furgione, the responsible for the Neocatechumenal Way in Southern Africa. “This same mission is happening in more than 10,000 squares all over the world, to bring to those who are far away a testimony that the Catholic Church is alive, and reaching out for them”.
