Il mondo dice Sfigati ...noi diciamo BEATI...!

di Salvatore Cernuzio A volte Dio come un buon giardiniere scende nel suo orto per controllare i fiori che ha piantato e se trova uno particolarmente bello, lo prende con Sé e lo porta nella Sua casa. È successo proprio questo oggi, nella chiesa di Santa Francesca Romana, nella zona Ardeatina della Capitale, dove si è celebrato il funerale, anzi la “nascita al Cielo” della giovane Chiara Petrillo, dopo una sofferenza di circa due anni provocate da un tumore. Una cerimonia tutt’altro che funebre: una grande festa a cui hanno preso parte circa mille persone che hanno occupato la chiesa fino ai matronei più alti, cantando, suonando, applaudendo e pregando dall’ingresso della bara fino alla sua uscita. È una storia straordinaria quella di Chiara, che in questi giorni sta girando in tutti i canali della rete, tanto che il video su Youtube - Testimonianza di Enrico e Chiara - ha registrato più di 500 visualizzazioni in un solo giorno. Non si può restare impassibili di fronte a questa storia di santità dei nostri giorni. Una storia che merita di essere conosciuta e raccontata, come hanno scritto molti utenti nei loro commenti, perché è una dimostrazione di come sia possibile realizzare oggi le parole di Giovanni Paolo II quando disse: “Tutti possono aspirare alla santità, la misura alta della nostra vita quotidiana”. Soprattutto è la prova che, nonostante siamo immersi oggi in una società egoista che insegna a salvaguardare il proprio benessere prima di ogni altra cosa, c’è ancora chi, con la forza della fede, è capace di morire per l’altro, di sacrificare la propria vita pur di permettere ad una nuova di nascere. Questa ragazza romana di soli 28 anni, bella, solare, con il sorriso sempre sulle labbra, è morta, infatti, per aver rimandato le cure che avrebbero potuto salvarla, pur di portare a termine la gravidanza del suo Francesco, un bambino atteso fin dal primo momento del suo matrimonio con Enrico. Non era la prima gravidanza di Chiara. Pochi mesi dopo le nozze, la ragazza era rimasta incinta di Maria, una bimba a cui sin dalle prime ecografie, era stata diagnosticata un’anencefalia, ovvero una malformazione congenita per cui sarebbe nata priva totalmente o parzialmente dell’encefalo. I due giovani sposi accolsero senza alcuna esitazione questa nuova vita come un dono di Dio, nonostante i medici avessero tentato più volte di farli desistere. E gioirono per tutti i 30 minuti di vita della piccola, celebrando il battesimo e accompagnandola nella sua «nascita in cielo». Alcuni mesi dopo, una nuova gravidanza. Anche in questo caso, però, la gioia della notizia venne minata dalle prime ecografie che non facevano presagire nulla di positivo. Il bimbo, un maschietto di nome Davide, sarebbe nato senza gli arti inferiori. Armati dalla fede e dall’amore che ha sempre sorretto il loro matrimonio, i due sposi decisero di portare a termine la gravidanza. Una scelta “incosciente e ostinata” ha scritto qualcuno sul web, ma sicuramente una scelta di fede, frutto della convinzione che le chiavi della vita e della morte sono custodite solo da Dio. Verso il settimo mese, una nuova ecografia rivelava delle malformazioni viscerali con assenza degli arti inferiori per il piccolo Davide. “Il bambino è incompatibile alla vita” era la sentenza. Incompatibile forse alla vita terrestre, ma non a quella celeste. La coppia infatti ha atteso la nascita del bambino, il 24 giugno 2010, e dopo aver celebrato subito il suo battesimo, ha accompagnato con la preghiera la sua breve vita fino all’ultimo respiro. Sofferenze, traumi, senso di scoraggiamento, ma Chiara ed Enrico non si sono mai chiusi alla vita, tanto che dopo qualche tempo arrivò un’altra gravidanza: Francesco. Questa volta le ecografie confermavano la buona salute del bimbo, tuttavia al quinto mese a Chiara i medici diagnosticarono una lesione della lingua che dopo un primo intervento, si confermò essere la peggiore delle ipotesi:  un carcinoma. Da lì in poi una serie di combattimenti. Chiara e il marito, però, non hanno perso la fede e “alleandosi” con Dio decisero ancora una volta di dire sì alla vita. Chiara difese Francesco senza alcun ripensamento e, pur correndo un grave rischio, rimandò le cure portando avanti la maternità. Solo dopo il parto, infatti, la giovane potè sottoporsi a un nuovo intervento chirurgico più radicale e poi ai successivi cicli di chemio e radioterapia. Francesco è nato sano e bello il 30 maggio 2011; ma Chiara, consumata nel corpo fino a perdere anche la vista dell’occhio destro, dopo un anno, non ce l’ha fatta. Mercoledì, verso mezzogiorno, circondata da parenti e amici, ha terminato la battaglia contro il “drago” che la perseguitava, come lei definiva il tumore, in riferimento alla lettura dell’Apocalisse. Come, però, si legge nella medesima lettura – scelta non a caso nella cerimonia funebre – una donna ha sconfitto il drago. Chiara, infatti, avrà perso il suo combattimento terreno, ma ha vinto la vita eterna e ha donato a noi tutti una vera testimonianza di santità. “Una seconda Gianna Beretta Molla” l’ha definita il cardinale vicario, Agostino Vallini, che ha voluto omaggiare con la sua presenza Chiara, che aveva conosciuto qualche mese fa insieme a Enrico. “La vita è come un ricamo di cui noi vediamo il rovescio, la parte disordinata e piena di fili – ha detto il porporato – di tanto in tanto, però la fede ci permette di vedere un lembo della parte dritta”. È il caso di Chiara secondo il cardinale: “una grande lezione di vita, una luce, frutto di un meraviglioso disegno divino che ci sfugge, ma che c’è”. “Io non so cosa Dio abbia preparato per noi attraverso questa donna” ha soggiunto, “ma è sicuramente qualcosa che non possiamo perdere; perciò raccogliamo questa eredità che ci ricorda di dare il giusto valore ad ogni piccolo o grande gesto quotidiano”. “Questa mattina stiamo vivendo, quello che 2000 anni fa visse il centurione, quando vedendo morire Gesù disse: Costui era veramente figlio di Dio” ha detto invece nella sua omelia frate Vito, giovane francescano, conosciuto ad Assisi, che ha assistito spiritualmente Chiara e la sua famiglia nell’ultimo periodo, trasferendosi anche nella loro casa. “La morte di Chiara è stata il compimento di una preghiera” ha proseguito. La giovane, difatti, ha raccontato il frate, “dopo la diagnosi medica del 4 aprile che la dichiarava ‘malata terminale’, ha chiesto un miracolo: non la guarigione, ma di far vivere questi momenti di malattia e sofferenza nella pace a lei e alle persone più vicine”. “E noi – ha detto ancora frate Vito, visibilmente emozionato – abbiamo visto morire una donna non solo serena, ma felice”. Una donna che ha vissuto spendendo la sua vita per l’amore agli altri, arrivando a confidare ad Enrico “forse la guarigione in fondo non la voglio, un marito felice e un bambino sereno senza la mamma rappresentano una testimonianza più grande rispetto ad una donna che ha superato una malattia. Una testimonianza che potrebbe salvare tante persone…”. A questa fede Chiara è arrivata pian piano, ha precisato frate Vito, “seguendo la regola appresa ad Assisi dai francescani che tanto amava: piccoli passi possibili”. Un modo, ha spiegato, “per affrontare la paura del passato e del futuro di fronte ai grandi eventi, e che insegna a cominciare dalle piccole cose. Noi non possiamo trasformare l’acqua in vino, ma iniziare a riempire le giare. Chiara credeva in questo e ciò l’ha aiutata a vivere una buona vita e quindi una buona morte, passo dopo passo”. Un grande passo, però, ora Chiara l’ha compiuto: il matrimonio celeste con il suo Sposo “pronto per lei” – come cantavano i giovani del suo gruppo parrocchiale – tanto che per l’occasione nella bara era vestita con il suo abito nuziale. Chiara, ora, potrà “accudire i suoi Maria e Davide” e “pregare per Francesco” come scriveva nella lettera lasciata a suo figlio, letta oggi da Enrico. E tutti noi, così come questa mattina abbiamo portato via dalla Chiesa una piantina – per volontà di Chiara che non voleva fiori al suo funerale, ma che ognuno ricevesse un dono – portiamo nel cuore un “pezzetto” di questa testimonianza, pregando e chiedendo la grazia a questa giovane donna che forse un domani chiameremo Beata Chiara Corbella.

Thousands of Families in Milan confirm their vocation to serve the New Evangelisation

On the afternoon of Sunday the 3rd, more than 100,000 members of the Neocatechumenal Way attended a Vocational Meeting for Families in Milan, with Kiko Argüello and Carmen Hernandez, the initiators of the Way. Under a gray north European sky, the Neocatechumenal families are not afraid of the rain. They’ve experienced it in Madrid, in Toronto, and in many other pilgrimages around the world, following the Pope. All forecasts say that is going to rain, and if it has to rain, then let it rain. But the joy on the faces of the children, tired but still smiling, encourages their parents to face any odds.

100,000 members of the Neocatechumenal Way came to Milan from all around the world, to testify to their calling to form a Christian Family. In a time of economic crisis, why spend money on a pilgrimage? Why leave everything behind, facing the difficulties of a weekend abroad, traveling with little children – which we all know are sometimes not that easy to guide? It is the Sunday of the Holy Trinity, a week after Pentecost, and maybe it’s the work of the Holy Spirit, that gentle breeze which can be strong as a tornado when it brings everything and everyone in movement.

Buses are coming from all European countries. Many have traveled during the night, their eyes bearing the marks of an uncomfortable ride. Yet they are here, marching together towards the area of the new Milan Fair, singing. In every family there are one or two children who carry a guitar, proud to imitate their father, the cantor. Every group bears a cross and an icon of the Virgin Mary, painted by the initiator of the Neocatechumenal Way. On the painting, Mary is looking in the same direction as her Son, while whispering these words, written on the canvas: “Make Christian communities like the Holy Family of Nazareth, that may live in simplicity, humility and praise, where the other is Christ”.

During his homily on this same Sunday morning, the Pope addressed these families with words of encouragement that confirmed them in this mission: “Dear married couples, by means of a special gift of the Holy Spirit, Christ gives you a share in his spousal love, making you a sign of his faithful and all-embracing love for the Church. If you can receive this gift, renewing your ‘yes’ each day by faith, with the strength that comes from the grace of the sacrament, then your family will grow in God’s love according to the model of the Holy Family of Nazareth”. In the third millennium, the New Evangelisation needs the testimony of the Christian family, especially in those countries in whichsecularisation has caused the Church and Christian values to disappear from the horizon of people’s lives. The Christian family that “grows in God’s love according to the model of the Holy Family of Nazareth” is an icon of the Church herself, making the love of God present and visible .

Kiko Argüello, the initiator of the Way together with Carmen Hernandez, rejoices at the sight of the crowd. Many are the bishops and the cardinals that want to participate in this vocational meeting; among them is the Archbishop of Pretoria William Slattery, happy to join the Neocatechumenal families that came with him: Dino and Roberta Furgione, responsibles of the Way for Southern Africa, together with their six children; and Michael and Natalie Eckard from Belhar, Cape Town, with their six children.  After a liturgy of the Word, and the proclamation of the Gospel, the crowd listens attentively to the words of the Cardinal of Sydney, George Pell: “The Way is showing us that a family can’t live its faith alone, isolated, but needs to be inserted in a community of families”.

While the sky turns to dusk, the emotion of the families grows deep and the silence is stunning. After some words of encouragement, Kiko asks all the families who feel the call to follow the Lord in the New Evangelisation, to stand up and confirm this calling by coming on the stage, to receive a blessing from one of the bishops. An unbelievable crowd of 2,000 families, together with all their children, begins a procession to the stage, some in tears, some struck by an incomprehensible joy. It is like a river, flowing on the stage. Among them, also the South Africans Michael and Natalie chose to give their ‘yes’ to the Lord. These young families are willing to go in mission to the earth's remotest ends to live their faith in the midst of today’s secularised society, announcing the good news without fear.

These families are going to undergo a profound discernment of their vocations, and when the time is ripe – and especially when the parents will be in communion with all of the children – the family will sail away towards the ports of the New Evangelisation, the mission ad gentes (‘to the nations’) of this new millennium.

Kiko also announced a special vocational call for the evangelization of the far eastern countries: 300 young men gave their availability to serve this mission by entering a seminary; and 200 girls responded by accepting the call to consecrated life.

Dov’è, o morte, la tua vittoria?

...riguardo le domande sulla morte che possono nascere in noi, San Paolo ci dà la risposta : “ Dov’è, o morte, la tua vittoria?  Dov’è, o morte, il tuo pungiglione? La morte, dice San Paolo, non ha più l’ultima parola, o meglio non ha più potere su di noi.  Il modo in cui ho vissuto e  celebrato il passaggio alla Vita eterna di mio Nonno quel 29 Maggio del 2005 mi permette oggi di dire che Gesù ha vinto la morte ed io ho visto la Sua vittoria.  Ed oggi ne sono testimone ! Coraggio!

Quando c'è crisi non dovrebbe emergere l'amore?

<<Quando c'è crisi non dovrebbe emergere l'amore?>>...questa è la domanda che mi è stata posta da una persona a me cara pochi giorni fa in una conversazione telefonica con l'italia. Lui su e giù per le autostrade a cercare di raschiare il fondo di qualche commerciante ancora disposto a pagare per il lavoro ricevuto...ebbene sì ..dice il mio amico..la gente non mi paga più e neanche apre più la porta per dare spiegazioni e se la apre è per piangere la disperazione del paese in crisi o per mandarti affanc... accusandoti di essere senza cuore e senza pietà!..Ma io mi dico..e pensare che ero venuto a portare un pò di gioia e soprattutto proposte di cooperazione per riuscire insieme a sopravvivere o almeno galleggiare!...e la mia domanda caro Dino è ..ma non dovrebbe nascere cooperazione? altruismo? non dovrebbe attivarsi una catena del bene? non dovrebbe emergere l'amore in un momento dove siamo tutti nella stessa condizione economica e sociale?....E allora io rispondo << Eh NO! caro mio no siamo mica nel dopoguerra ove tutti si cooperava per la ricostruzione del paese ripartendo proprio dalla sua cellula base e fondamentale che era la famiglia!? ..e così vedevi che se uno aveva pane lo divideva col vicino , se un'altro aveva uova sfamava i più piccoli, se una donna aveva più latte nei seni allattava anche i figli del vicinato..etc.. OGGI caro mio dopo la globalizzazione che ci ha portati a diventare la generazione del touch screen e del TV dinner (microwave o microonde con 30 secondi è pronta la pasta) e di fronte ad un'Europa grigia e secolarizzata che ha smarrito molti dei valori che la contraddistinguevano ....E' l'egoismo che emerge ...l'egoismo non l'amore capisco che questo ci sorprende , siamo scioccati ma io ti dico che tutto questo è provvidenziale!...cosa? cosa? ..risponde lui..provvidenziale?? ..ma sei pazzo a parlare così?...NO affatto non sono pazzo ..pensa che parlavo circa 2 mesi fa con un noto economista tedesco che colpito dal fatto che per la missione ho abbandonato casa, carriera, sicurezze..etc..mi ha detto<< sai Dino, attraverso te realizzo che è vero che il mondo passa (gli obiettivi da raggiungere, i soldi, la borsa, le azioni.. ) ma la Parola di Dio resta ed è sempre attuale e profetica guarda la torre di Babele e vedi le torri gemelle, guarda al diluvio universale e vedi il Giappone, guarda , vedi, guarda e vedi che ogni qualvolta l'uomo ha voluto sostituirsi a Dio pieno di se, è allora che i piani si sono sconvolti dando un messaggio forte all'umanità!!
...oggi stando in mezzo ai poveri (quelli veri)che penano per avere un pezzo di pane a fine goirnata, che faticano a farsi riconoscere nella società perchè non hanno mai avuto una carta d'identità,  che dormono sulla strada , che hanno ricevuto abusi su abusi, che non sanno neanche chi sia il padre o la madre, che non sono mai nati perchè abortiti per mancanza di speranza..oggi..mi rendo conto che questo è il risultato dell'egoismo di qualcun'altro...è facile giudicare Dio come un mostro davanti alla fame nel mondo...ma ci dimentichiamo che Dio ci ha lasciati liberi di scegliere il bene e il male e... molte volte il risultato/frutto di questa libertà è la morte dell'altro! ...oggi non è solo la società ad essere testata ma anche la chiesa che ahimè è formata da persone con debolezze , persone che risentono dei mali della società stessa..la Chiesa come la società ha bisogno di purificazione. MA DI FRONTE A TUTTO QUESTO DICO CHE C'E' LA VIA D'USCITA che i Papi in questi ultimi 30 anni hanno indicato ... "superare i limiti dell’individualismo, della chiusura in se stessi, il fascino del relativismo, per cui si considera lecito ogni comportamento" ... contrastare "l’attrazione che esercitano forme di sentimento religioso che sfruttano i bisogni e le aspirazioni più profonde dell’animo umano, proponendo prospettive di appagamento facili, ma illusorie".
"La fede è un dono di Dio, ma che vuole la nostra risposta, la decisione di seguire Cristo non solo quando guarisce e solleva, ma anche quando parla di amore fino al dono di se stessi"....fino a morire all'altro, per l'altro, senza curare più i propri interessi. CORAGGIO!..c'è bisogno di bruttezze per assaporare la bellezza...quando fai una scultura parti dal materiale che molte volte è bruttissimo prima che venga lavorato, levigato, lucidato, manleato..etc.. ma poi?...Coraggio Amico mio sono certo che questo processo di purificazione ci porterà a far sì che emerga l'AMORE. The mission of the natural family as heritage of the society

The Seventh World Meeting of Families will take place in Milan from 30 May to 3 June 2012 on the theme "The Family: Work and Celebration". The event is intended as a public testimony of the Christian family values, promoting – as the Cardinal of Milan Angelo Scola said – a deep “anthropological awakening”. Milan is the economical capital of northern Italy, and at the same time a true post-modern secularized Center European city. Maybe this is the reason for which it has been chosen to host this great event, as a sign of hope for the future.

About the theme, “Work and celebration”, Pope Benedict said in his preparatory letter that “the organisation of work, conceived of and implemented in terms of market competition and the greatest profit, and the conception of a holiday as an opportunity to escape and to consume commodities, contribute to dispersing the family and the community and spreading an individualistic lifestyle.” This World Meeting of Families reconciles these different aspects of human life, by putting back at their center the family, “united and open to life, thoroughly integrated in society and in the Church”, a family which celebrates together the Lord as its only source of strength.

The city of Milan is busy preparing the way for the Pope: more than 33,000 families are going to host the pilgrim families from all parts of the world, and thousands of youths offered themselves as volunteers. The organisation is expecting more than one million people to attend the various events.

The Pope will arrive on Friday, address the city in the beautiful Duomo square and assist at a concert in his honor in the prestigious La Scala opera house. On Saturday the 2^nd he will meet more than 50,000 youths preparing themselves to be confirmed; and on that same evening he will preside over the “Feast of Testimonies”, together with families gathered from all parts of the world. The meeting will culminate in a solemn Mass on the morning of Sunday the 3^rd.

South Africa will be represented in the meeting by a delegation formed by Archbishop William Slattery of Pretoria and Bishop Dabula Anthony Mpako of Queenstown. For Archbishop Slattery this celebration will be a chance “to experience the communion of the universal Church, and to be enriched by the testimony of families from all parts of the world”. The bishops will be accompanied by two families of the Neocatechumenal Way: Dino and Roberta Furgione, responsibles of the Neocatechumenal Way for Southern Africa, together with their six children; and Michael and Natalie Eckard from Belhar, Cape Town, with their six children.

Michael recalls that his last pilgrimage “overseas” was in Czestochowa, for the 6^th World Youth Day in 1991. “At the time I was an adolescent, and I would have never imagined that God would have changed my life so radically. I am especially grateful to God and to his Church for the call to be open to life. It has not been easy, but today I am touched to see myself going back to the Pope together with my wife and all of my children, as a thanksgiving for all the wonders that the Lord has effected in my life”.

Dino Furgione declared: "The Neocatechumenal Way supports the family through the Christian communities which are on a path to rediscover faith.... The family responds to the gift of faith which she received in the community by opening up to life with courage. In this way the family saves today's Church and society...".

The Neocatechumenal Way, the result of the rediscovery of the catechumenate by the Second Vatican Council, first opened the path in South Africa in 1986, and today has more than 20 communities in 4 Dioceses there.  It was recognized by the Church as "an itinerary of Catholic formation valid for our society and our times" (Bl. John Paul II), and is a "form of diocesan implementation of Christian initiation and permanent education in faith," as approved by the Holy See in 2008.

On the afternoon of Sunday the 3^rd, more than 100,000 members of the Neocatechumenal Way will remain in Milan to attend a meeting with Kiko Argüello and Carmen Hernandez, the initiators of the Way. The meeting will be presided by Archbishop Scola. Kiko Arguello is going to put the words of the Pope into practice by doing a vocational call to all families to follow the Lord in the New Evangelisation. Currently there are already more than 1,000 families of the Neocatechumenal Way which have answered this call to abandon the comforts of their everyday lives and go there where the church is in need.  They are now supporting the New Evangelisation in more than 100 countries.

Dino underlines that "..the presence of so many families coming from different countries of the World, right here in the middle of an aging Europe which has lost its values, is a sign of great hope. Christ is revealing to man the true and full meaning of his life, and this is what moves these people to build a new society which looks forward to the future with confidence. This is a contribution that the Way gives to the New Evangelisation. The parishes that welcomed the Way without any reductions or personal interpretations are discovering in it a valuable tool, certainly not unique, but one which is reviving them and turning them into real centers of faith and true sources of vocations...".

Since the Way “is a mode of Diocesan Christian initiation”, the Parish rediscovers through the Way “the gift of God to his Church” (Benedict XVI) and revives its mission. The communities are not simply one of the many groups in the Parish. They are a precise answer to the secularisation process which is taking place in the world today. Blessed John Paul II has said explicitly: “In a secular society like ours, where religious indifference is rampant and many people live as if God did not exist, many people are in need of a new discovery of the baptism. This itinerary is one of the providential answers to this urgent need”.
